Everyone assumes their lottery win will coincide with Nehalem being released.
On a serious note, will $1200 USD buy a 2.93Ghz Nehalem, a Nehalem motherboard, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 55nm GTX260? I think 2.93Ghz Nehalems will be $530 (per 1000 unit quantities) on release. GTX260s are about $300 now, and the die shrink will increase yields. Maybe about the same price on release? If I allow $250 for motherboard, I am counting on the DDR3 RAM falling in price a lot (to $120). I know this is all speculative, but I am thinking of selling my current PC before Nehalems release and want some opinions on the pricing of the new gear.
EDIT: Rahja, or Technician, can you move all the talk (dreaming) about Nehalem to a new thread? It seems every thread about upgrading, or upgrading in the next few months, ends up returning to dreaming about Nehalem.

Awesome, thanks
Those SSD's are damn expensive >___< lol
I'll probably have to order that monitor, we don't have walk-in shops that will sell those over here... Closest thing to that here is the Samsung 32" monitors, but it's not gaming screens... the kinda screens they use at the airports for flights and at the stock market (8ms, 1366 x 768 resolution, ftl)

Because Nehalem is the upgrade. And no, Nehalem CPUs will be priced much lower than that. 2.66GHz Nehalem will be around 250-300 at most. They will be very nicely priced.
GTX 280s are 449-549 on most sites now. GTX 260s are 249-320.

I've just ordered the 26" Samsung
The 30" is a bit too expensive lol
Oh ya, it's a 5ms one, not 6ms (but not that it really matters hehe)

Hmm still trying to work out if that's a 6bit or 8 bit panel. I think its 6 bit because of the smaller viewing angle and the lower response time. I don't understand why monitor companies can't just state the bloody information rather than have you trawl through the interwebs.
Regardless of it being 6 bit it should be a great monitor. Personally I would have waited until some reviews came out though... Although Samsung does have a great reputation so its not that necessary. Hope you don't want to play Crysis at that res

Sorry 2 have changed the topic... but can someone here explain to me what the "refresh rate" (60Hz in the T260's case) means on a lcd screen?
I thought it only applied to the scanners in crt monitors? *is confused*

Nope, both CRTs and LCDs have a refresh rate which "is the number of times in a second that display hardware draws the data it is being given" (Source: Wikipedia).
Basically means if v-synch is on your FPS is capped at (the very playable/good) 60FPS. A refresh rate of 60 is standard for LCD computer monitors. High end LCD TVs have a refresh rate of 100.

SSDs are sweet, but they're still at the original Raptor stage - damn fast but small capacity.

If you buy Corsair RAM, I will personally come and hunt you down.
Just say NO to Corsair!
Go with Crucial or Gskill.

The GTX260 didn't do too bad I guess? It's nog a great score, but then again I'm not OC'ing the crap out of the CPU (stock cooling lol) and the gfx card is running at factory settings.
CPU score: 30,392
GPU score: 33,988
Total score: 33,012

In answer to one of your questions - if you're not overclocking, you don't really need anything other than the stock cooler. (Nor do you need heatsinks on the RAM)

Sure thing...
"Nehalem is about improving HPC, Database, and virtualization performance, and much less about gaming performance"
Or if you want whole article...

Or, to look at it another way, most games run out of GPU power long before they run out of CPU power.
